VOLUNTEER IN South Africa – Surf and Teach Children in Cape TOWN
Upper Galilee, Israel
Every country in the world displays some diversity, but South Africa, from the hippos in Limpopo to the penguins on the Cape, is a world in and of itself. It befits its position at the southern tip of the planet’s most epic continent, with more types of awesome terrain than photographers can shake their zoom lens at. What better to begin exploring this fascinating country then to immerse yourself in the local culture by volunteering for education and community development – and while you’re at it why not learn to surf? Ekaterina, a volunteer form Russia, just got back from her second GoEco volunteer experience, this time in Cape Town on the Surf and Teach program. Check out her pics and see what she had to say below!

SURF AND TEACH VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IN CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

This project is an adventure club for 12-14 year old children focused primarily on extramural surfing and swimming lessons (no previous surf experience required!). As the children are from disadvantaged areas of Cape Town, the facilities and equipment for outdoor activities and sports are not readily available to them. In addition to after-school activities, volunteers can also assist with in-class education, such as teaching computer skills. An exciting 3-day orientation in Cape Town is provided before the start of the project.

Volunteer Feedback
“This project combines everything that you can enjoy – interesting voluntary work, great people from all over the world, friendly project staff and exciting surf lessons! The kids we worked with were so amazing, cheerful and funny, I enjoyed every minute I spent with them! The conditions they live in are not good at all, so it was great pleasure to colour their life with games and outdoor activities, teach them and have a lot of fun. It was the best trip I’ve ever had in the most beautiful place I’ve ever been!”
